Union Community Health Center celebrated Bronx Week 2013 on Community Awareness Day with a health fair at its 260 East 188th Street location.
Union Community Health Center offered free health screenings, including HIV testing, and dental and orthodontic evaluations. Mammograms were also offered by St. Barnabas Hospital in its Mobile Mammography unit. Additionally, several city agencies and community organizations, including the Urban Justice Center, FDNY Fire Safety Education Unit, NYC DOHMH Lead Poisoning Prevention Program, Big Apple Rx, and several others participated by offering free information and access to resources, such as food stamps. Children also were treated to free face painting, made possible by HealthPlus.
“Union Community Health Center was proud to be part of Bronx Week 2013 activities,” said Dr. Douglas L. York, Ph.D., Chief Executive Officer, Union Community Health Center. “Union Community Health Center is committed to delivering and providing access to comprehensive services needed by our community, both health and social services. With that intention, Union used Bronx Week’s Community Awareness Day to bring information to our community regarding health issues, and resources available to address them and other needs.”
