Phony Cops Sought for Deli Shakedown

By Dan Gesslein

BRONX, NEW YORK, October 3- Neither a phony shield nor a gun pointed at him would convince an Eastchester clerk from giving a pair of crooks money. Cops say the stick up artists posed as police officers when they unsuccessfully tried to shakedown the clerk.

The real cops just released surveillance video from the attempted robbery which took place on July 20. The men entered Titanic Deli, 450 East Gun Hill Road, and displayed a handgun. While his partner closed the door and posed as a lookout, the gunman showed off a shield claiming to be a police officer. He then demanded money. Despite the gun in his face the clerk refused to fork over the cash and the crooks left.

However, the robbers did walk away with something. Surveillance video at the entrance to the deli caught images of the pair as they left. Investigators are hoping the public can help identify the phony cops.

The first suspect is a black male between the ages of 50 and 55. He is 5 foot 7 and 160 pounds. He was seen wearing a blue hat and white sweatshirt. Suspect number two is a black male between the ages of 20 and 30. He is 6 foot 1 and weighs 225 pounds. He was seen wearing a black sweatshirt.

Anyone with information is urged to call CRIMESTOPPERS at (800) 577-TIPS. The public can also submit tips by logging onto the Crime Stoppers website at WWW.NYPDCRIMESTOPPERS.COM or by texting their tips to 274637 (CRIMES) then enter TIP577.
