Needle Robber Busted in String of Thefts

BRONX, NEW YORK, October 2- The brazen thief targeting teens with a syringe may have pulled his last robbery, as police have announced the suspect has been captured in Yonkers.

Bronxite Angel Anthony Cintron, 39, was tracked down and apprehended by Bronx detectives, hiding out in Yonkers after police released a mug-shot of the suspect wanted in connection with at least nine robberies, many while threatening his victims with a hypodermic needle.

Police say Cintron began his one-man crime spree on August 16, when he robbed a teenaged victim at Castle Hill Avenue and E. Tremont Avenue. Cintron allegedly returned to that location and robbed a second person.

On September 10, the individual struck again at White Plains Road and E. Gun Hill Road. That same week another person reported a similar incident on Roberts Avenue in Pelham Bay.

At the end of September, another robbery was reported in the area of Westchester Square and feeling the heat in the Bronx-- from an old mug-shot released by the NYPD, Cintron apparently headed to Manhattan for his last robbery, robbing a teen's cell phone aboard a subway train at W. 86 Street, on Saturday, September 29.

Police say Cintron, who has an extensive criminal background with 19-prior arrests, has been targeting male teens with cell phones, iPods and iPhones as well as cash and jewelry.

Cintron was charged on Monday, October 1, with multiple counts of robbery and criminal possession of a weapon.

One woman boarding a train at Westchester Square, stated after the arrest, "I was ready for him because I bought some pepper spray, but I'm glad they got him."
