Mark Teixeira, Eric Chavez, Jayson Nix, pitching coach Larry Rothschild, and Yankees General Partner and Vice Chairperson Jennifer Steinbrenner Swindal surprised students of Flying Manes at one of their classes at the Riverdale Equestrian Center in the Bronx.

The Yankees helped the students in grooming the horses and assisted in leading and walking beside the horses during the students’ riding lessons. At the conclusion of the event, on behalf of the New York Yankees Foundation, the Yankees players presented Flying Manes with a check for $10,000.

Flying Manes Therapeutic Riding was created by Stefanie and Bricklin Dwyer in 2009 with the goal of providing therapeutic riding lessons and other equine-assisted activities to individuals in the New York City area who are faced with physical, cognitive and emotional challenges. The organization—which requires more than 70 volunteers—offers children and young adults a unique, confidence-building sense of accomplishment and has worked with close to 100 students in the four years since it was founded.
