Charged in Mowing Down Columbia U Alum
BRONX, NEW YORK, JUNE 3- District Attorney Robert Johnson announced the Supreme Court arraignment of Michael Longo in the death of a 38–year–old Columbia University financial director, Daniel Cabrera, in a hit-and-run crash that occurred on February 23, 2015 in the Marble Hill section of Manhattan.
The 58-year-old Longo pled not guilty in Bronx Supreme Court to the charge of Leaving the Scene of an Incident Without Reporting, a Class D Felony.
Longo is accused of mowing down and leaving the father of one for dead in the intersection of West 225th Street and Broadway, shortly before 7 p.m., as Cabrera was heading home to Cortlandt Manor in Westchester County. Longo allegedly sped away southbound over the Broadway Bridge in a Dodge Magnum.  The vehicle, which was not registered to him, was later recovered in Upper Manhattan.
Assistant District Attorney Sharon Adler of the Bronx D.A. Trial Bureau 20/50 requested the defendant be remanded, but Supreme Court Justice George Villegas set bail at $25,000 bond or $15,000 cash and adjourned the case until August 25th Part 96 Supreme Court, Bronx Hall of Justice, 265 E. 161st Street.
If convicted of the charges, Longo faces a potential two-and-a-third to seven years behind bars.
The charges in this indictment are merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.

Japanese Sex Site Hijacks King’s Twitter Account

By Michael Horowitz

City Councilman Andy King, who can’t seem to get a break as far as his public image is concerned, has unwittingly been supporting a Japanese smut sight.

A Twitter account, owned by Councilman King, has been taken over by a site specializing in the sleazy side of Tokyo, the New York Post reported on Monday.

The Post reported that Councilman King, who was recently charged in a sex-harassment suit, had been oblivious to what was going on until the newspaper pointed out the problem.

Stephanie Cleaton, the principal spokeswoman for Councilman King in the Bronx, failed to respond, this week to an e-mail from Bronx News relating to the lawmaker’s unwitting link to the seedier side of Tokyo.

However, Cleaton reportedly told the Post, “This was the first time we are seeing this. Of course, he (Councilman King) is not promoting this site at all.”

Councilman, at this point, has no control over his former site, andykingnyc.com. At this point, with sexually inviting content that is seemingly in Japanese, is being used to promote the hornier side of society in Tokyo.

Cleaton told the Post that someone, other than Councilman, picked up the domain for the seedy Twitter account after King’s link to it expired.

Motorman Who Ran After Crashing Train Struck by Hit-N-Run Driver

By David Greene
BRONX, NEW YORK, JUNE 2- The driver who had been sought by the NYPD for running down a pedestrian along the Grand Concourse, has surrendered-- as his victim remains in serious but stable condition at St. Barnabas Hospital.
Police sources say Willesty Rosa, 26, of Pond Place, surrendered to police the following afternoon and has been charged with leaving the scene of an accident. The NYPD has impounded the vehicle as evidence.
Rosa was allegedly driving northbound on the Grand Concourse in the Burnside section when Robert Rey stepped off the center traffic island at East 182 Street. The 61 year old was run over and left for dead at 8:45 p.m., on Thursday, May 28.
Sources reported Rey suffered "multiple injuries" including "severe head trauma" and a broken left leg after being hit by the vehicle that was traveling at a high rate of speed.
Police officials say Rey was walking across the busy roadway from east to west, when he was run over. Paramedics who removed Rey listed him as, "likely to die."
A camouflage baseball cap belonging to Rey remained in the roadway a good 20-feet from where a small pool of blood and discarded medical waste lie on the asphalt, the exact site where paramedics initially treated Rey.
Rey was the infamous subway motorman behind the controls of the doomed Number 4 Train that crashed at the Union Square station on August 28, 1991, that resulted in the deaths of five passengers and injured 200 others.
After the crash Rey fled the scene and later admitted to drinking alcohol before his shift. Rey was convicted the following year of manslaughter and served 10 years of a 15 year sentence.
Police officials could not immediately say if Rosa had any connection to the train crash.

According to statistics released by the NYPD, in the first five months of Vision Zero, 40 pedestrians have died, compared with 45 during the same time period in 2014-- when the speed limit was still 30 miles-per-hour.
