Yankees Honor Andy Pettitte

Yankees Honor Andy Pettitte

By Howard Goldin

BRONX, NEW YORK (SPORTS)- One of the members of the new legendary group, the Core Four, was honored by the franchise on Sunday. Following his former teammate, Jorge Posada who was saluted on Saturday, Andy Pettitte received a similar honor on Sunday afternoon. The stars of the playoff and World Series winning teams in the 1990’s and early 2000’s have been in the spotlight during the past two seasons.

Although the ceremony was very similar to the one held one afternoon earlier, the thrill for the fans of the team during that period was not lessened. Pettitte was joined by many members of his family to share the glory and joy he received. Present on the field with him were his wife, his four children, his mother and father, his in-laws, and his daughter-in-law.
Many of the former Yankees greats who attended the Posada salute on the previous day were again present to help honor their teammate. In attendance were teammates Scott Brosius, David Cone, Hideki Matsui, Paul O’Neill, Tino Martinez, Bernie Williams and Core Four members Derek Jeter and Jorge Posada.

The fourth member of the special group of Yankees, Mariano Rivera, was on-the-field to present Pettittewith a jeweled base that was autographed by all of the day’s special guests. Rivera and Pettitte teamed for many Yankees wins as Rivera saved 72 of the right-hander’s starts.

Other guests saluting Pettitte were his manager Joe Torre, the general manager who signed him to a contract, Gene Michael, the team’s trainer Gene Monahan, and Hall of Famer Reggie Jackson.

An interesting video of the hurler’s career that was shown on the screen in center field began the ceremony. A nice touch was having Pettitte introduced by the voice of the late public address legend Bob Sheppard while the pitcher was standing on the bullpen mound.

After the Pettitte family departed Monument Park and circled the field by automobile to join the other guests in the infield, gifts were presented. A replica of the Monument Park Plaque was presented by Pettitte’sformer catcher and manager Joe Girardi, a replica of his retired jersey #46 was given by Hal and Christina Steinbrenner and Jennifer Steinbrenner Swindal presented Pettitte a career milestone ring.
Pettitte, a soft spoken and very religious individual, was inclusive in his utterance of gratitude for those who aided him in his lengthy major league career; he mentioned family, friends, teammates, trainers, strength staff, managers, coaches, the scout who signed him, Joe Robinson, those who arranged the ceremony, Debbie Tymon and Rob Bernstein and closed by thanking the “best fans in the world.”

Pettitte spoke of the incredulity he felt when he began with the Yankees in the majors in 1995, “A dream of mine as a boy had come true.” He said he felt something during Sunday’s ceremony that he could not have imagined when he was a rookie 20 years ago. He also mentioned the strangeness of a boy born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and living with his family in Deer Park, Texas being able to find “ a second home in New York.”

The weekend ceremonies were connected in Pettitte’s mind as he said, “I’m just so proud I could share this weekend with Posada.”

Posada caught 100 of Pettitte’s 219 Yankee wins. They were a battery again as Pettitte threw out the ceremonial first pitch to Posada.

Yankee Luis Severino Earns First Major League Win

By Howard Goldin

BRONX, NEW YORK (SPORTS)- Luis Severino earned his first major league victory in his fourth start on Saturday afternoon following the tribute to Jorge Posada. The exciting victory for the young hurler kept the Yanks in first place in the American League East. Severino was the 14th player to make his major league debut for the Yankees this season, but the first as a starting pitcher. On August 5, at the age of 21 years and 166 days, the rookie was the youngest pitcher to start a game in MLB in 2015.

The prime reason for his inability to win any of his three previous starts this year was his lack of run support by his teammates. The Yanks only scored twice in his first three outings combined while on Saturday, they scored seven runs.

Severino yielded a home run to the second batter in the contest, Indians shortstop Francisco Linder. The homer was the only extra-base hit given up by the Dominican native. He was only touched for two singles throughout his six innings on the mound, one by Linder in the second and the other by Lonnie Chisenhall in the fourth.

What was different for Severino was his lack of normal control. He walked four batters in six innings on Saturday, but in his previous three starts only walk four in 17 innings. In 99.1 innings in the minors this season, only 27 batters drew walks.

Yankee skipper Joe Girardi assessed the performance of the newcomer, “I thought he pitched a good game without his best stuff.” The manager believed his ability to overcome adversity is a very good sign for the youngster’s future in the majors, “The more tough situations you get through, the more confidence you should get. He had composure and he didn’t get fazed in his first big league camp in the spring. Everything we’ve seen from him we like. I think he’ll be around a long time.”

The rookie expressed confidence of his ability and responsibility without showing any arrogance, “Sometimes you just have to go out there and do the best you can [even without your best stuff]. I know I have a good team behind me. For the first time, I feel like I belong here.”

After the large group of mainstream media left his cubicle, several reporters spoke to him in Spanish. He visibly perked up when reminded of a luncheon he was to be honored at in Manhattan on Monday afternoon. He told them some of his family members were here to support his early efforts in the majors. He exhibited a warm personality and good humor when made to feel comfortable.

He is currently the only Yankee starting pitcher to have an ERA under 3.00. His 2.74 should keep in the rotation regularly as the team vies for a spot in the playoffs.

BRONX, NEW YORK (BRONX NEWS)- More than any franchise in professional sports, the New York Yankees honors its heroes of the past and its greatest events of its lengthy and illustrious history. The fourth of five Yankees heroes, Jorge Posada, was saluted in the Bronx.

Saturday began a very special weekend of recent Yankees memories with the tribute to Jorge Posada. The popular catcher from the mid-1990’s through 2011 unveiled a copy of his plaque that will be displayed in Monument Park at Yankee Stadium. His uniform #20 was retired in the same ceremony. Posada’s mother and father, his sister, his wife and son and daughter were present to share the happy day with the former Yankees catcher.

In addition to the members of his immediate family, Posada was joined on the field with members of his Yankees family, general manager Gene Michael, trainer Gene Monahan, teammates Scott Brosius, David Cone, Hideki Matsui, Paul O’Neill, Tino Martinez, Bernie Williams, manager Joe Torre, and
the other three members of the Core Four, Mariano Rivera, Andy Pettitte and Derek Jeter. Each received the plaudits of the large crowd of 47,031. The largest cheers were given to Matsui, Rivera and of course, Jeter.

Posada also received gifts from the Yankees, a replica of his plaque by Joe Girardi and Diana Munson, a replica of his retired #20 by Hal and Christina Steinbrenner and a special ring by Jennifer Steinbrenner Swindal.

Posada gave a short but emotional speech expressing his gratitude to the many who had given him support throughout his career, “Trying to put into words thoughts and feelings about today is definitely tough.” He said his years with the Yankees were “an honor and dream come true.”

On the following day, a plaque of Andy Pettitte will be unveiled before its placement in Monument Park and Pettitte’s #46 will be retired by the Yankees. Although both members of the Core Four will probably fall short of inclusion into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, they were of vital importance to the great success achieved by the Yankees during the past two decades.

Posada, a native of Santurce, Puerto Rico, celebrated his 44th birthday five days before his Yankee Stadium salute. Encouraged by his father and uncle, Posada was destined to be a star in baseball. After two years at Calhoun Community College in Alabama, Posada was drafted by the Yankees in 1991. Like his counterparts in the Core Four, Posada spent several years improving his craft in the minor league system of the Yanks.

His accomplishments as a Yankee rank him with the graets who preceded him at that position, Yogi Berra, Elston Howard, Bill Dickey and Thurman Munson.

WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW
By Senator Rev. Rubén Díaz

BRONX, NEW YORK (BRONX NEWS)- You should know that some time ago, Times Square used to be the pit of the nation where criminals, drug dealers, prostitutes and all kind of sordid behavior could be found in the area.

Times Square was a haven for open prostitution, commercialized sex, selling and using drugs. There were used condoms all over the place. People were afraid to take their families – especially children to Times Square because they didn’t want to witness the immoral behavior. Even the streets were dirty.

It is well known that New York City Mayors used to come and go, and Times Square didn’t see any change - until a guy by the name of Rudy Giuliani was elected Mayor and instituted the quality of life policy.  Regardless of anyone’s opinion or fight for supposed civil rights, his legacy includes completely reforming Times Square.

During his war on crime, Giuliani cleaned the streets and transformed Times Square into a new place where families from all over the world were drawn. New York’s next Mayor Michael Bloomberg closed the streets in Times Square and created a plaza.

But ladies and gentlemen, surprise, surprise: Times Square has made a turn for the worse and is on its way back to what it was before Giuliani.

Now we have naked cowboys, topless women doing business and taking photos – accosting and molesting tourists, a cursing Elmo, and people pissing in the streets. All kinds of immorality have returned to Times Square.

Our current Mayor Bill de Blasio’s solution to the problem is to close the Times Square Plaza due to the fact that equality in the law allows for women to go topless because men can go topless. Therefore, Police Officers are not permitted to arrest, summons or harass topless women, because of “equality.”

The problem with Mayor de Blasio’s solution in closing the Times Square Plaza, will cause the naked cowboys and the naked women to move to other places. That will create a situation where Mayor de Blasio will have to keep closing places all throughout the City of New York. He will have to keep chasing them all over and closing places until there are no places left to close.

The law that authorizes women and men to go topless needs to be changed! As a Senator representing the South Bronx, I am afraid that Hunts Point might be next to go back to what it was.

Therefore, I am introducing legislation to make it illegal for anyone to go topless in the streets and places in New York State except for beaches.

In a city where millions of people are drawn to Times Square, we need to push against the immorality that has taken root there once again so families can enjoy New York. If equality laws are in the way, let’s push for equality so neither men nor women can go topless in our streets.

My dear reader, I hope that my colleagues in the State Legislature and the Mayor of New York City will support my legislation to do away with toplessness in the streets of New York.

That will be better than chasing topless women and closing streets all over New York City.

I am State Senator Rev. Rubén Díaz and this is what you should know.

Again the Indians got to the Yankees

Again the Indians got to the Yankees

By Rich Mancuso

BRONX, NEW YORK (SPORTS)- It is baseball, and once again in the Bronx Friday night the Cleveland Indians were the team that continued to give the New York Yankees problems. And for the fourth time in five games the Indians did not look like one of the worse teams in baseball.

Carlos Carrasco got his 12th win on the mound and recorded his third double digit strikeout game of the season. He was another righthander in consecutive games that the Yankees could not contend with, and his 11 strikeouts had the Yankees wondering what will await them Saturday afternoon when they oppose another righty, 11-6 Danny Salazar.

“They’ve given us trouble,” said Yankees manager Joe Girardi after a 7-3 loss. “I’ve said it always, the one thing about baseball, it doesn’t make sense.” And when the Yankees have trouble scoring runs, as they did again against Carrasco, the game will never make sense to Girardi and the Yankees.

And to be fair enough, as any astute observer of the game will say, good pitching will stop good hitting. The Yankees the past two games against Indians pitching have scored five runs, and once again that is a concern as the dog days of August continue.

But the Yankees manager is not in a panic mode. Yes. Girardi would like to see his team get the bats going again after Carrasco and two out of the Indians pen combined to strike out 13 Yankees. And it was last August 9th against Cleveland when the Yankees struck out 15 times against Indians pitching.

So there is a definite tend these last two years in that the Cleveland Indians, a team dead last in the AL central, play like a first place team against a potent but inconsistent lineup of New York Yankees. This time it was Carrasco, who was the better pitcher against the Yankees’ Masahiro Tanaka who gave up one run and five hits in 6-⅔ innings.

“They’ve pitched extremely well against us and we haven’t scored a lot of runs,” Girardi said.  Saturday afternoon when the Yankees honor one their “Core Four”, Jorge Posada, it will be Salazar the 25-year old right hander on the mound for Cleveland. Last week he got a win over New York at home, and allowed one run in 7.1 innings on four hits.

The task will not be easy for Girardi’s team, and it also has a lot to do with an Indians’ core of good starters who have become a bright part of their dismal season. But they are building a solid foundation and for now wins over the Yankees have become a part of that building process.

“I don’t really worry about where the team is in the standings,” the Yankees Brett Gardner said when asked about the Indians’ dominance and how they have not played in the Bronx as a last place team.

He added, “Last place, first place, a loss is a loss and a win is a win. They’re obviously not in our division but every game counts just the same and we just got beat.”

However, Carrasco had good command with his fastball and that caused Gardner to be two of his strikeout victims. The splitter and changeup also had the Yankees taking bad swings and any contact made all went for outs.  Still the Yankees know that they have two more games remaining with these Indians Saturday and Sunday, and they need to figure out a way to get out of this latest slide of their inability to score runs.

Carrasco through the first three innings allowed one hit and struck out six. Once again the Yankees, who lead baseball by a wide margin in scoring first inning runs, had difficulty with a right handed weapon that the Indians seem to have when facing the Yankees.

And the only extra base hit for the Yankees came in the fourth inning on a Carlos Beltran double. Carrasco who struggled last year has quickly become a good arsenal for manager Terry Francona and the Indians.

“I had confidence and just found it today,” said Carrasco about his seven innings of good pitching against a Yankees offense that seemed to be getting out of their hitting tailspin in the past week. “Right now everything is down and not up.”

“Everyone in the starting rotation is doing hard work,” he said about the Indians staff limiting the Yankees to five runs in the first two games. “We all pay attention to what the other guys is doing and that’s competition which is all good.”

The Yankees, though, have not found a way to figure out how to get by that competition against the Indians. They will try and find the solution by Sunday because the first place west leading Houston Astros come to the Bronx for three games starting Monday night.

If not, that half game first place lead over Toronto will not look that way in the standings.

Worker used Match to Check for Gas Leak

BRONX, NEW YORK (BRONX NEWS)- A worker using a match to check for a gas leak caused the JFK High explosion, Mayor deBlasio said.

The explosion rocked Marble Hill when the gas ignited at the Kennedy education complex.

Mayor Bill de Blasio said a worker at the site of the gas explosion was responsible for the incident. The mayor said one worker had lit a match near a gas line to see if the gas was on. The mayor then went on to say that it looks like the building will not be in shape for opening day of the new school year. In all there are eight schools that comprise the Kennedy Campus which was one known as John F. Kennedy High School, which was closed due to continued poor performance under then Mayor Michael Bloomberg.

The two charter schools inside the Kennedy Campus were scheduled to open for the new school year next week, and those students will be housed in the nearby INTech school building in front of the Kennedy Campus until the building reopens. Mayor de Blasio said that every student who is scheduled to attend any of the schools inside the Kennedy Campus will have a seat in a nearby school until the building can safely reopen.

“I am grateful for all of the efforts of our first responders in the aftermath of last night’s unfortunate gas explosion at John F. Kennedy High School," said Councilman Andy Conen. "While I was on the scene of the incident, the emergency response from the FDNY, NYPD, OEM and others aiding the victims was nothing short of tremendous. I am thankful for their hard work and my thoughts are with the victims who I wish a quick and full recovery.

"I will work diligently with the Mayor, Department of Education, the School Construction Authority and my other colleagues in government to ensure that the damage at the JFK campus is repaired so classes can safely take place there as soon as possible. In the meantime, the City is committed to finding a temporary location that is both a safe and productive learning environment for our students.”

At 8 p.m. on August 20, an explosion rocked the Kennedy campus home to eight schools and over 4,000 high school students.

It appears the explosion was caused by the contractors working on refurbishing the science labs in the rear of the building, where plumbers were working on the gas lines.

Rescue units from all over the Bronx and Upper Manhattan responded, and three of the workers were taken to the hospital with injuries, two of them serious.

The explosion rocked the Marble Hill neighborhood and blew out windows in the building.

The force of the explosion sent some parts of the window frames, glass, and building exterior to the roadway leading to the back of the building and to the front parking lot.

“Last night’s gas explosion at John F. Kennedy High School Campus in Marble Hill was a shock to our community," said Assemblyman Jeffrey Dinowitz. "Though we are very fortunate that the school was not in session, my thoughts and prayers are with the three construction workers who were injured in this unfortunate incident.

"Additionally, I am very grateful to the FDNY, the NYPD, the New York City Office of Emergency Management, Mayor de Blasio, and everyone else who responded to this incident as quickly and efficiently as possible, ensuring the public’s safety. In the coming weeks we will do everything we can to make sure that John F. Kennedy High School Campus is safe and ready to open for students," Dinowitz said.

Unsure if School will Reopen on Time

BRONX, NEW YORK (BRONX NEWS)- A gas explosion rocked the Kennedy campus in Marble Hill injuring three people. The destruction leaves into question whether the school will open on time for the beginning of classes in September.

At 8 p.m. last night an explosion rocked the Kennedy campus home to 8 schools and over 4,000 high school students.

Mayor Bill de Blasio arrived at the site a few hours later saying that it is not known if part or all of the building will open in September when the new school year begins, and that the building will be carefully inspected for any structural damage.

Yankees Blame Ump But Pitching Stops Them

Indians show good pitching can stop the Yankees

By Rich Mancuso

There were pitches that appeared to be out of the strike zone that went against the New York Yankees Thursday night in the Bronx and home plate umpire Dan Lassogna definitely was not consistent. By the ninth inning Yankees manager Joe Girardi had enough and put on a show for the fans.

Girardi was ejected after Brian McCann questioned a call third strike. At that point the Yankees, who had a late inning rally were on the doorsteps of possibly pulling out a win against the Cleveland Indians. But it was more than the strike zone of Lassogna that saw the Yankees lose 3-2 in the first of a four game series to the Indians.

Josh Tomlin got the start for Cleveland and earned his first win in almost a year by limiting New York to one run in seven innings, and the Yankees  could only get two hits off the righthander. There was a double by Chase Headley in the third inning and Alex Rodriguez accounted for the Yankees first run with a solo home run in the fourth.

But it was Tomlin, and the usual unreliable Indians’ bullpen that shut down the Yankees and not the umpire. It also proves once again that good pitching can shut down the Yankees, who hope a game like this will not get them into another tailspin at the plate.

In the eighth inning, and with Steven Drew on first, Jacoby Ellsbury struck out looking on a Bryan Shaw slider that could have been another pitch out of the strike zone. Brett Gardner followed and struck out swinging and the Yankees trailed 3-1. They would get another run in the ninth but that Ellsbury strikeout, and then the McCann strikeout was enough for Girardi.

“I thought the strikeout of Jacoby Ellsbury was four inches outside.” said Girardi who got his third ejection of the season. “I want the strike zone to be the strike zone.  I know they are not going to be perfect. It is a real important time.”

Yes it is an important time of the year. And the umpires can’t always be perfect with the Yankees and Toronto Blue Jays fighting for a divisional title, with every game possibly making a difference to determine who gets to play a wild card postseason game, or who gets to play in a best three-of-five divisional series.

However this night it was not the umpire at the plate who made the difference, and that is no matter how inconsistent the strike zone was. Tomlin, shut down the Yankees and good pitching can keep the Yankees off the base paths.

The Yankees pulled within a run in the ninth on a Carlos Beltran single. But Chase Headley and Didi Gregorius could not get to Indians’ closer Cody Allen who recorded his 24th save. The Yankees are 45-40 against the right hander starter and the next two games they get that with Carlos Carrasco ( 11-9) and Danny Salazar (11-6), both who handle the Yankees well and try to follow what Tomlin accomplished.

Against left hander starters, the Yankees are 22-13. In the postseason those are statistics that an opposing manager will evaluate when setting up the pitching rotation but that will be determined in due time, and the Yankees have to be more concerned at this point about how to attack good pitching.

In the past month, they showed how vulnerable they can be against some of the elite pitchers in baseball, facing one of the ERA leaders in the American League, Chris Archer and the fastball of David Price.

Girardi complained about the strike zone and he did have a cause for argument. However, and not to reiterate again, the Yankees could not handle the mediocre fastball of Tomlin in his second start since undergoing right shoulder surgery in March.

Said Tomlin, who has been charged with three runs and seven hits in 13 ⅓ innings since his return, “Obviously you don’t want to have the injuries. Sometimes it gets in your head but for the most part you’re out there and you’re throwing the ball pretty well. It really doesn’t creep into your head.”

Nor was he intimidated about the Yankees and their success of leading baseball with 99 runs scored in the first inning. He threw the fastball and the home run to Rodriguez was the third he allowed since his return. His win was an otherwise positive point of a disappointing season for the Indians who occupy last place in the Al Central.

“it’s fun to talk about him,” said Indians manager Terry Francona about his starter. “We’ve talked about just in a short period he’s been here how much we’re pulling for him.”

The Yankees though had no fun and it wasn’t just the strike zone calls they were getting at the plate. Having to deal with another righthander was the issue and  they don’t want to get many more games like the one Tomlin pitched against them.

Source of Legionnaires Found
Outbreak Over- Health Officials Say

By Dan Gesslein

BRONX, NEW YORK (BRONX NEWS)- Health officials have identified the Opera House Hotel as the source of the deadly Legionnaires outbreak which claimed the lives of 12 people. Health experts have also declared the outbreak to be over.

Health officials made the announcement on locating the source of the outbreak on August 19. They believe the hotel was where the outbreak originated which claimed 12 lives and sickened 120 people.

“After extensive review and coordination of laboratory data at the city, state, and federal levels, we have identified the source of the outbreak in the South Bronx – the Opera House Hotel’s cooling tower,” said city Health Commissioner Bassett. “We eliminated the danger posed by the Opera House Hotel’s cooling tower as soon as it tested positive for disease-causing Legionella. Today, all cooling towers in the affected area have been disinfected, and all cooling towers across the City are being evaluated and disinfected if necessary. Historic legislation passed by the City Council and signed by Mayor de Blasio should help prevent tragic outbreaks like this from occurring again.”

“Control of Legionella is complex, and disease detection, environmental science, and laboratory advance work helped bring this unfortunate outbreak to an end. We hope to advance the science about how to improve control from New York's experience,” said Dr. Anne Schuchat, assistant surgeon general and director of CDC’s National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases. “The quick and thorough reaction from local and state authorities likely prevented many others from developing Legionnaires’ disease. CDC is appreciative of our collaborative work with New York’s public health experts.”

Officials from the Opera House Hotel issued a statement in reaction to the Health Department's findings.

"It's particularly disappointing because our system is two years old, has the most up-to-date technology available and our maintenance plan has been consistent with the regulations that both the city and the state are putting in place," the statement said. "We have worked closely with both the city and the state since this issue first arose and have done everything requested to address the situation."

Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz, Jr. praised officials in helping to end the outbreak. He hailed the passive of legislation to check all cooling towers as a major step toward preventing another such outbreak.

"We needed all hands on deck, and getting help from the CDC was a huge step in combating this disease that was hurting the South Bronx," said Diaz. "Gov. Cuomo's offer of free testing for building owners, the legislation that Council Member Vanessa Gibson and I have proposed to ensure that we are proactive against the further spread of the Legionnaires Disease, and Mayor Bill de Blasio's push for testing buildings throughout the city are all positive steps forward in eliminating this problem while finding solutions to prevent yet another outbreak."

Autistic Man Weighed just 70 Pounds

BRONX, NEW YORK (BRONX NEWS)-  In 2010, James Thompson, a severely autistic and cognitively disabled man in the care of his mother, was 5 foot 8, 145 pounds and otherwise healthy. A little over two years later, when EMTs found him unresponsive on the floor of his Bronx Park South apartment the 42-year-old man was less than half that weight with fractures to his arm and leg.
Bronx District Attorney Robert Johnson announces that Naisia Norman, the autistic man’s niece, has been indicted on charges of: manslaughter in the second degree - P.L. §125.15 (Class C Felony); criminally negligent homicide - P.L. §125.10 (Class E Felony)
The 22-year-old Norman pled not guilty before Justice Oliver. Bail was set at $75,000 and her case will next be held on September 15th in Part 60 Supreme Court.

Norman was the caretaker for her severely autistic and cognitively disabled uncle, taking over his care when her grandmother could no longer live at home and entered a nursing home. Norman had moved in to her grandmother and uncle’s apartment across the street from the Bronx Zoo when she was 16 years old. After her grandmother took sick and was hospitalized Norman applied for and was granted Representative Payee status, which meant she received her uncle’s Social Security benefits totaling over $690 a month.  The money was to be used to care for Mr. Thompson.
Of the $8,628 provided to Norman to care for James Thompson between February 1, 2011 and January 31, 2012, Norman reported that she spent only $722 to manage his money for his food, medical and other personal needs.
Prior to her arrest, Norman was employed as a home health care worker.
It is alleged that medical records from early 2010 showed that the 5-foot-8 James Thompson weighed 145 pounds. When he died on June 12, 2012, his autopsy showed his body was only 70 pounds. He also had fractures in his arms -- one acute, one healing. His cause of death was ruled a homicide due to nutritional and medical neglect, with signs of blunt force trauma.
At the arraignment, Assistant D.A. Adam Oustatcher told the Court that on that day her uncle died, Norman called 911, and arriving police noted the filthy condition of the apartment and the lack of food – only bread crumbs and cake frosting found in the house. A lengthy investigation ensued.
If convicted of the charges, Norman faces up to 15 years in prison.
