Chain Snatcher Caught on Tape

Gone in a Flash in Fordham

By Dan Gesslein

BRONX, NEW YORK, April 25- Police are asking for the public’s help in trying to catch a flashy chain snatcher who struck near Fordham University.

At around noon on April 19, a 60-year-old woman was walking near Fordham University. In front of 2505 Hoffman Street, the suspect attacked her from behind and ripped the chain from her neck and the cell phone out of her hand. The thief fled on foot and his victim sustained minor scratches and swelling to her neck.

The attack took place across the street from off-campus housing for Fordham University students. A surveillance camera captured the attack. The image shows the back of the attacker’s blue sweater which has a design in white similar to an Ed Hardy style outfit. In addition to the stylish sweater the thief was wearing sunglasses, blue jeans and white and black sneakers. He is a black male about 5 foot 8.

Anyone with information is urged to call CRIMESTOPPERS at (800) 577-TIPS. The public can also submit their tips by logging onto the Crime Stoppers Website at WWW.NYPDCRIMESTOPPERS.COM or texting their tips to 274637(CRIMES) then enter TIP577.
