Bronx Politics

100 PERCENT

Closing Out The Week

The Bronx Chamber of Commerce held their Hispanic Heritage Leadership Luncheon last Wednesday, and Yankee Closer (this year) Rafael Soriano was to close the luncheon with a guest appearance. However due to the rain out of the game scheduled for Tuesday, the game was made up as part of a doubleheader on Wednesday thus making Soriano unavailable to attend the BCC luncheon. The appearance of Yankee closer Rafael Soriano was then rescheduled for Friday at St. Raymond's Catholic School in Parkchester.

In less than two days Mr. Lenny Caro President of the Bronx Chamber of Commerce arranged to have sportscaster Duke Castiglione interview Yankee closer Rafael Soriano as Mr. Ray Negron translated for the Dominican Republic native Soriano on the stage in the school auditorium. The room was packed with children from the school, and after the interview the children were treated to another Yankee star, the Yankee mascot called “Bleacher Creature”. You can go to my blog at www.100percentbronx.blogspot.com for more on the Wednesday luncheon and Friday visit to St. Raymond's School by Yankee closer Rafael Soriano, and of course lots of photos.

What with primary day over the Bronx Democratic County Committee held their semi annual County Committee Call last Thursday to select officers and the Bronx County Leader. After a rather calm meeting (unlike in the past) the only real change was that Riverdalian Andrew Cohen was elected as one of the Vice-Chairs of the party to County Committee Chair Assemblyman Jeffrey Dinowitz (of Riverdale). By the way Assemblyman Carl Heastie was re-elected Democratic County Leader. You can go to my blog to see photos of this event.

The Castle Hill Community Fair took place this past Saturday, with help from State Senators Ruben Diaz Sr. and Jeff Klein along with soon to be Assemblyman Luis Sepulveda. Hundreds of people were in attendance, and while Senator Diaz was still recovering from knee surgery District Leader Julia Rodriguez stood in for Diaz Sr. During redistricting Senator Klein picked up a portion of the area and was out to meet some of his new constituents. Again you can go to my blog to see photos of this event, just check the archive section on the left.

Thursday October 11th will be the 5th Annual Liberty Democratic Association Awards Dinner to be held at Maestro's Caterers. Cocktails start at 6 p.m., with the dinner and reception starting at 7 p.m. For more information including the list of honorees you check my blog, or contact Mr. Joe McManus at 718-644-1841, or at Mcmanus638@aol.com to purchase tickets or a journal ad.

Looking back at our primary day predictions it appears that I may have missed on only one race that being the 78th A.D. where the turnout was the lowest of any Bronx A.D. I called it 81 – 19 for Luis Sepulveda in the 87th A.D. where the result was 77 – 23. In the 33rd State Senate race I called it 66 – 34 for Gustavo Rivera when the result was 70 – 30. In the Civil Court race I said that Eddie McShan would win 75 – 25 when the result was 60 – 40. Counting all the predictions I guess 9 out of 10 isn't bad, with the 87th A.D. and 33rd State Senate races within a 4 point margin of error. Now on to the Mayor's race, and City Council seats that will be open here in the Bronx.
